My wireless button has stopped working since I upgraded my Vista 64-bit to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Any advice please?

Hi
You have a couple of options as I see it please try these steps might help you to fix your issue.
1) Disconnect the Battery & Adapter then press & hold the power button on Notebook for 30 seconds then turn on the unit and check if the Wireless light turns on.
2) Go to Device manager then uninstall the wireless drivers from Network Adapter and restart the unit and check if the light turns on.
3) Try doing a system restore to the date where unit was working fine.
4) Please update the Bios & Wireless driver from HP website.
5) If you are comfortable reseating the wireless card which will be on the back panel off your unit you could try this steps as well.

Hi, I've tried Options 1 to 4 and my wireless/bluetooth button still remains in amber with the HP Wireless Assistant indicating that Wireless LAN and Bluetooth "Disabled" . The "Action" field is also inactive.

Hi, I've installed the HP Wireless Assistant and followed the recommended steps, but the Touch Button is still staying Amber all the time. HP Support Assistant indicates that Wireless LAN is not connected. The device is " Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN"

Hi
The last option is to run a recovery but before this kindly back up your data as it will be lost.

Hi,
Thank you for your time in trying to resolve my problem; I am calling it quits for now.
I’m very happy with my present Windows 7 and am reluctant to back-track to Vista which I know has no problem with the wifi touch button. And I’m unwilling to lose my data as it’s too complex for me to backup and reload. When I upgraded my Vista to Windows 7, it took me more than a week to reload all my programs and data, and I’m unwilling to go through that again. So I’ve decided to stay connected via my Wired LAN for now.
Once again, thank you very much for your time.

Hey peterc234,
I'm sorry you're running into this wireless issue. I've got a couple of other suggestions before running a recovery if you still feel like troubleshooting. I know that it can get frustrating after trying so many things.
The first thing is one that Manjunath Tech also suggested and that is reseating the wireless card itself. In this model, it is located underneath the hard drive.
Steps for Reseating the Wireless Card
Here is the Pavilion dv5 1010tx Maintenance and Service Guide - Steps to remove it begin on page 67. Basically, remove the battery and power cord, remove the hard drive and then you'll see the wireless card. Unsnap the antenna cables (they pull directly upward), unscrew the screws and pull the card out. Then put it back in. This will cause Windows to re-detect it and hopefully recognize it. Put everything back together, turn the computer on and try it. Let me know what happens with that.
Also if you could try simply uninstalling the driver and restarting which helped a user on page 5 of this thread.
- Open Device Manager
- Expand Network Adapters
- Double-click on the Intel line to open properties
- Click the Driver tab
- Make note of the version number
- Click the Uninstall button
- Restart the computer
Please let me know if these steps helped or if you have any questions!
