Hi,

As your notebook shipped with Windows 8 ( machines with this OS started shipping 26 Oct 2012 ) it should still be under the standard 1 year warranty from HP, so by far your best option is to contact HP and arrange for repair.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

Hi,

It may be a hardware issue with the keyboard, but try the following.

Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.

Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.

That doesnt fix it. Still does it.

Hi,

Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand Keyboard, right click Standard PS/2 Keyboard and select Uninstall.

When done, click the 'Scan for hardware changes' icon in the toolbar and let the hardware reinstall.

If the above doesn't correct the problem, it would start to look like a possible hardware fault with the keyboard or its connection to the System Board.

Hi,

Unfortunately it does sound like a hardware problem.

Shut the notebook down and then see if the previous method to access the bios menu still works - if it does, reset the bios defaults again and see if Windows will reinstall it during boot.

Still the same. Is this a common issue with this computer? And if this is a hardware issues how would i go about fixing it?

HP Recommended

Hi,

The probable fix would be to replace the keyboard - there are other possibilities, but a hardware fault with the keyboard is the most likely cause.

If your notebook is still under warranty with HP - you can check this Here - then just send it in for repair.

If you're not under warranty, post back with the following details.

1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of your g6 series notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information.

2.  The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 64bit ).

3.  Did the keyboard reinstall after restarting the OS and re-setting the bios defaults for a second time?

4.  Did the problem with the keyboard appear suddenly or has it got progressively worse?
