I am experiencing intermittent boot on my DV2313cl laptop.

Sometimes I just get the blank screen with the lights and fan going.

Sometimes it boots, but the fan runs constantly.

I stripped it down and found no thermal paste on the processor, so added that but the fan still runs constantly.

Anyone know why the fan runs constantly? Doesn't seem to be running too hot, processor is at around 50 degrees Celsius per Speccy.

For those complaining about this being an HP problem, just look up Nvidia issues with MacBooks and you will find lots and lots of people who lost video on their $1500 MacBooks from around this time frame... ouch! Apple had a 4 year extended warranty for that issue.

Clearly there was a design fault on this model's graphics circuit.

Unfortunately, I'm in the UK so nothing will get done about my faulty laptop but you guys in the US should consider a class action against HP like the ones Dell have suffered with their design problems.

HP clearly sold a unit which is prone to failure and, as such, should accept responsibility for it.

GET A LAWYER!!

Have Special Ediciton dv2500 notebook.  Starts up, but no screen lights up.  Remains black.

Motor? fan?  noise heard and also hear "chime"asking for password.  No lights though.

dv2500 is shown on label on underside of unit, but on top right hand corner of screen dv2000 is shown.

HP are unable to indicate which model I have.   It was installed with Vista, but had that removed and it now

run s (or it did run) on |Windows 7 Professional.

Have had unit approx 3 yrs - given to me, origin al owner replaced it with something else.

15.6"Entertainment notebook - Special Edition.

Can it be fixed?   Can any one recommend reasonable repairer in Ballarat or Bendigo area of Victora,

Australia.

In the following thread, please see messages #1 and #43 to check if the lid switch could be your issue.

We have a dv2000 that was bought in 2007 - Dec.

I not only fix that black screen issue but I modify the heat sync with copper square touching the copper heat diffuser tupe and thermal paste it (exactly like HP did on the processor and are now finally doing for all video chips). Since doing 25 or so none have experienxced a return of the problem even after 4 years!

You can ship the nmachine to me or just the board. I'll fix it ,modify the heat sync, assemble and ship it back for $150 total.

Local to San Diego? $130 total

I'm having the same problem with my Pavilion dv 2000. It has an AMD Sempron processor and is running Windows XP.  This issue started yesterday for me. I was working on my laptop while on battery power. The battery ran out, and so the PC went into hibernation. When I tried to boot it up last night after plugging it in, the light for the hard drive blinked three times, then nothing but the QuickPlay buttons were on. No screen, no boot, nothing. What do I do? I'm about ready to put my fist through the screen of it, I'm so frustrated with it.
