I bought Hp Pavilion dv6 about 11 months ago. When I tried to turn it on today morning, it didnt boot and  Caps Lock light  is blinking 3 times.I searched on internet and found out that its a memory problem. Is there any solution to this problem so that I can fix it in home?

Hi,

Try removing and re-seating the memory module - the procedure is detailed starting on Page 68 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

If this fails to correct the problem, as your notebook should still under warranty, your best option is to contact HP and arrange to have this repaired under warranty - if needed, you can check your warranty status Here.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

Actually, the best thing I can tell you on how to resolve the issue, is to remove the memory modules and get a pink eraser either a block eraser or on the back of a number 2 pencil. On the gold contacts, where they plug into the mother board, and rub the eraser across those gold tabs. I suspect that the issue is from the laptop being exposed to some type of moisture, which has caused a tinting (corrosion) of those tabs. Once you clean both sides of those contacts on the ram module, I believe that this should solve that issue for you. I hope that this helps you out. I am not an employee of HP, but I have over 2 decades of experience working on computers and I am a board level certified technician.

Thanks!
Removing and re-seating the RAM worked for me.
