Pavilion dv6500
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I have a HP Pavilion dv6500 that originally came with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on it. I bought a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium and put it on there. Now I have learned I can get Windows 10 free on it. Launch day has come and the Get Windows 10 app says the graphics card isn't compatible because NVidia has not done so yet. I checked NVidia's website and they said to come to the OEM's support site. HP's support site has no updated drivers. Is there somewhere I can get proper drivers if they exist?

System Specs:

Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-64 2.20GHz

Installed Memory 2.00GB

32 bit Windows 7 Home Premium

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M

I ran into the same problem with my notebook. NVIDIA informed me that they will not be updating the drivers for the NIVIDIA GeForce 7150M /nForce 630M. Their suggestion was to either replace the motherboard or stay with my present OS.

I worked like a charm for me!

Same problem here.  I installed Windows 10 on a DV-6604NR laptop with NVIDIA GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M gaphics, but the display looks like a dog's breakfast because it reverted to the Windows display drivers.

Hopefully HP will release drivers for their older NVidia-equipped PCs soon.

The Get Windows 10 App won't even let me upgrade saying NVidia hasn't made the card compatible yet.

Yeah, that's what I would have expected. I found it odd that I didn't even get a warning.

I didn't know there was a driver problem until Windows 10 rebooted and the display looked like crap.

Yeah, also, if you ever find the proper drivers on the NVidia website, do not try installing them. After I rebooted on the Windows 10 Preview after installing those drivers, it never booted up again. I had to use my recovery discs.

That is unfortunate. I bought WIndows 7 just because I wanted Windows 10 free and now I can't get it. At this rate I'm definitely going back to Ubuntu when 16.04 comes out.

Awesome! Tried this on my dv6500 and it worked! Here are the exact steps I took:

1. Downloaded the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool

2. Used it to upgrade to WIndows 10

3. As expected, display was crap.

4. Got the drivers from the post (I tried using the 64 bit since my AMD processor was a 64 bit but it was actually for the OS architecture. It's a 64 bit machine but HP gave a 32 bit os. **bleep** it HP!) and I got the 32 bit one. I could tell it was working because the graphics were no longer crap even before I rebooted. After I rebooted, the graphics were no longer crap and all is well.

Thanks for the tip. Looks like I won't be going to Linux after all!

Thanks for the tips. I notice others have tried it and the results look good. I am going to try it myself.
