I just purchased my HP Pavillion DV6 laptop, and the webcam is absolutely horrible. There are what appears to be gridlines that run through the image, and they get larger and smaller randomly. Sometimes they disappear, but the majority of the time they are there. I've tried everything from reinstalling drivers, to changing lighting, etc. I've noticed that unchecking Lighting Compensation makes the problem go away, however it also makes the image so dark that almost nothing can be seen (and this is in good lighting). I've also noticed, that when I'm in natural lighting, it changes my image to a green tint and I have to manually go in and change the settings of the webcam, so that it's not quite as green. I'm so annoyed with this problem, I expected a lot better for how much I paid for this laptop.

Does anyone have a solution to these problems? I'd really appreciate it.

It used to work for me. but since the time I had to use recovery disk to restore my computer I am also facing this issue. Would like to know how it can be fixed?

some times webcam shows pics but rapidly horizontal lines start appearing green and purple lines.. with time they cover the full frame.

some times I do not get any pic at all. I tried many programs like yahoo messenger, Gtalk, google+, Skype... with all this is the problem.

Can someone provide steps to fix this issue?

I have the same exact issue and it's driving me crazy.

However, I  can banish the grid lines by going into the webcam setup and disabling "Low Light Compensation" found under "Camera Control"

I use Skype to access the camera controls but most any webcam software sould have a menu option for it.

Low-light is the issue.  Increase the amount of ambient light and turn off low-light compensation in applications like Skype.  Solved the problem for me.

After reboot low-light compensation turn on automatically. How to disable it forever?

I have only owned my new dv6 for 10 days now and I have this problem too, HP hasn't even tried to fix it since you made the first post about it 6 months ago.

Brian,

You mentioned going into the webcam setup and disabling "Low Light Compensation" found under "Camera Control". Can you tell me where to find camera control. I have a Pavilion dv7 and can't seem to find that option on my machine. I have the same issue with lines on my camera. Thanks. Paul

BUMP BUMP BUMP!

Is there still no solution for this?! I've given up with the webcam altogether at the moment on this. Shame as the DV6 is a half decent laptop otherwise....

Hello all,

I know this thread has been active for a while but I ran across it when I was doing research for another thread and wanted to see if these two issues were the same. If anyone is still following this thread, please take a look at this other thread where the original poster has an image of the gridlines posted. Let me know if that is the same issue that you all are experiencing, please.

I have made some suggestions to him and wanted to see if those suggestions would do anyone any good from this thread.

The other thread - Hp pavilion dv6 6159tx true vision hd camera issue

Any feedback is welcome! Please let me know if there are any questions 🙂
