I am a pc engineer and have been for 15 years, Here are the facts about the pavilion models ( All Pavilions )

This is how your Hp Pavilion will fail.......

  1. The wireless card will not be recognised..  ( you can not connect to the internet )
  2. Your machine will sometimes not boot into BIOS ( your laptop will have to be restarted several times before it will boot )
  3. Your machine will one day shut itself down and when you try to restart it, the fan will spin, the lights will flash but there will be NO ONE HOME !!!!!!!
  4. Your machine will never start again and Hewlett Packerd KNOW THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a fault with the Grahics Processor on the motherboard with all these models that only a pc engineer will recognise or be able to repair.

DO NOT BUY NEW INTERGRATED WIRELESS CARDS as this will NOT fix your problem, you will be wasting your time and money.

The only way to repair this issue is to do a reball ar a reflow. If you don't know what this means or how to perform one, get a tech to get your data off the HD to a back up and throw your Hp Pavilion through the door of Hewlett packard main building residance in California with a very Crude note attatched to it XX

Get your data backed up from your HD and throw your Pavilion away,   It will at some point in the very near future never switch on again !!!!

A know issue beginning with  the failure of the wireless card, then the machine intermittantly not booting that any new hardware will fix, do NOT wast any money on these machins.

PROBLEM SOLVED: Have had off and on issues with HP Wireless Assistant not working. Tried to select Orange light on keyboard and would not change blue. Read all the forums advice and nothing worked. Finally was able to solve this by Selecting F10 upon rebooting. Once in that screen select F9 to Restore Defaults, then F10 Again to Save and Exit. The orange light turned blue once it was signed back on allowing me to get the wireless back on and back online. I realize this may not work for everyone, but try it and I hope it works for you. So frustating HP to have such an issue.

What I did to get wireless conection to work on the HP6000pavilion laptop in xp was to attach a mini wireless n seed usb adapter to the usb port. This negated the setting on the wireless switch.

I had same problem. I checked the system event log and found that the system could not find the internal wifi adapter so i purchesed an external mini wifi adapter and attached to the usb port and the wifi system works fine now . What it does is it basicly negates any position of the wifi switch.

Hi Earleto,

I'm sorry to say that your issue with your wireless on a DV6000 series is a terminal fault and the problem is NOT your wireless card.

Has it frozen on post BIOS yet? or all lights flash on boot up, then it shuts down? It usually starts with this prodrome.

The problem is with the onboard nVidia Graphics processor which is soldered too high off the motherboard and, is too near the processor and heat sink.

This causes something called ball shrinking, meaning the solder softens with the heat of the machine and becomes disconnected from the circuit board.

Hp recalled all affected laptops after a lenthy court battle in the USA but would only replace the them with the same PCB.

There is a temporary fix but it's not for the faint hearted....

To verify this is your issue ( And i'm 100% sure it is ) fire your macine up and wrap a towel round it for at least an hour.

After at LEAST an hour, unwrap it and restart your pc, Hey presto!!! working wireless again.

But don't get excited this machine is dying, Back your stuff up and trash it asap

PEACE XX

I am having a similar problem but I notice when I turn the switch off is states that the wireless is off, when I turn it back on it states it's disabled.  so still the best solution is to buy a USB wireless.  In addition i tried to restore from a back up but the restore process stopped.  any suggestions?
