I have a HP Pavilion dv7-4053cl Entertainment Notebook PC and I am having trouble connecting to the internet wirelessly. However, I can connect when the notebook is connected directly to the router. I don't think it could be the router that is causing this since my roommates notebook can use the internet wirelessly and so can my xbox. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my network adapter driver but they did not help.

Follow the troubleshooting steps on this HP web document.
Is the wireless led white or amber? Are you sure that it is turned on?

It is white. When I remove the the ethernet cable, the icon on the bottom right shows five white bars with an exclamation mark within a yellow triangle. It would do it before wired and wireless with all networks I tried to join. But once I did a system restore on my notebook, its just having the wireless problem now.

Is HP connection manager installed?
I have Windows 7 installed in my dv7-4180 notebook.
I just left-click once on the wireless icon in the systray. When I do that I see available wireless networks. I select the network I wish to connect to and click on connect. When Windows asks for the network secirity key I fill it in and then click on OK. The connection begins and I am then wirelessly connected to the router that I have the network security key for.
Once I connect to my own home wireless router, Windows remembers the key if I select connect automatically. Connecting to the router after that is easy as long as my ISP hasn't failed me.

I don't have hp connection manager installed. I can join my network but it just says no internet access. I know I'm entering the routers password correctly, and I even took off the password for the router i still cannot connect.

Use Windows builtin wireless troubleshooter. Right click on the wireless icon in the systray and open the Network and sharing center. Click on the X where there is no connection and let the troubleshooter run through its connectivity routine and the reset the adapter section.
Are you sure that your firewall isn't stopping the internet connection from taking place? Disable it temporarily to troubleshoot that. What are you using for an internet protection suite?

OK.
Turn off the Norton Firewall to troubleshoot the issue.
What is the complete name and version of the Norton product?
There is probably a way to enable a learning mode for the Norton firewall.
Have you tried the HP Home network troubleshooting utility?

Well I uninstalled norton and installed Microsoft Security Essentials. I was able to turn off the firewall and the wireless icon with the yellow triangle still appears. I even turned off the firewall, removed my wireless network, joined the wireless network with the firewall turned off and still nothing works.
