I have a HP Pavilion ze4900 laptop. I had a lot of issues so I ran WipeDrive and clean the disk. Even though the laptop is quite old I still have the Windows XP system OS Disk and the driver disk. So I reinstalled the system. All the drivers appear to work, no yellow marks in Device Manager.
The wireless shows a connect, but I can not get on the internet.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
George

Hi, George:
A few questions...
1. What model wlan card does your notebook have?
2. Is your router set for WPA2 security (the best level nowadays)?
3. Have you installed XP SP3?
If the answer to # 2 is yes, and #3 is no, then the most likely reason is that XP SP2 does not support WPA2 security without the WPA2 security update patch, which is no longer available.
Otherwise, you probably need an updated wireless card driver if you have installed SP3.

Thanks for the help. I had Google set as my home page and couln not access it. After some work I duscoverd I could access some websites but not google. I put in MSN.com and could access it then I tried to update my Internet Eplorer 6.0 and was directed to a website that I couldn't access. The same happened on the SP3 update.
Any idea why I can access some websites and not others?
Thanks for your help
George

You're very welcome.
The most likely reason is because IE 6 and 8 are out of date.
I suggest you download Firefox, which is the only mainstream browser that I know of that will work with XP nowadays.

XP SP3 is no longer available for download from Microsoft, but you can still get it from this site.
Select the Download@Authors Site option, which is the actual Microsoft download server.

Since you didn't answer my question about what model wlan adapter your notebook has, I can't give you the latest wlan driver for XP which may also help.
