Hello,

recently my notebook have been running slow (almost to  a halt). I've suspected at first it was a virus, but a virus test didn't find anything. So, I formatted my OS partition and installed Windows 7 Professional and only the essential software that I use. After a short while (1 day), It started running slow again. among other things I freed hard-drive space but it didn't help.

Then, I ran the BIOS start-up and hard disk test, and both returned "Error: Read failureError: Read failure".
Please help.

Save everything you need to keep to an external hard disk. You have found out why it was slowing down. Your hard disk has failed and must be replaced.

The BIOS hard disk diagnosis is a great troubleshooting utility.

If your Probook 4520 is still in warranty, contact HP for a replacement hard disk.

If no longer in warranty, it is time to purchase a replacement hard disk. Once you have installed the new hard disk break out the recovery disk set or USB recovery media that you made.

Your Probook 4520s uses a SATA 9.5-mm, 6.35-cm (2.50-in) hard disk. I do not recommend using a SATA3 hard disk for possible compatibility issues.

A SATA or SATA2 SSD will also work and will be a true performance boost if you choose to go this route.
