Hi,

I planning on buying a Probook 650 G1. On top of that I was thinking of to remove the DVD drive (or other it without it) and install an additional HDD instead.

My main question is whether the DVD drive is removable at all. In the specs pdf I found online is not so clear the description, at least to me :), see below:

"Removable Storage                 Fixed 9.5 mm SATA optical drive: Blu-ray ROM DVD+/-RW SuperMulti DL; DVD+/-RW SuperMulti DL; DVD-ROM"

So is it Removable or Fixed?

Also, if it is removable, does it apply all different HW configurations on this model or only to few?

Thanks a lot in advance. Cant wait to get the new laptop 🙂

Cheers

Juan

Hi,

The drive (called ODD) is fixed but the actual storage media (CD's/DVD's) are removable. Very normal. Anyway, please look at the bright side: everything on any computer is removable. Back to your question: You can REPLACE the ODD with a HDD.

Regards.

Thanks a lot for your response.

What Caddy would you recommend for installing a HDD in the Optical Drive Bay?

There are some low cost universal types in the market, but I am not sure if they would fit nicely.

Thanks

J
