Hi all.

We suggested to our customer a server HP Proliant ML350e Gen8 for indoor use. The server is placed in the same room with users. But users claim to very strong noise. This server is carring 2 fans. We found noise specification about 28dB-A in operating mode for a 23°C ambient environment. But it's not true. The sound stronger than 28dB. We installed VMWare for HP on this server.

What we can suggest to our customer?

May be we need to replace this server or spare parts (fans)? Or, maybe we need to add additional fans to the server (it can carry up to 4)?

Any ideas?

Hi all,

Upgrading the storage controller firmware to version 3.54 fixed this problem for me. One thing to note is that after installing the firmware, I needed to reset the iLO before it took effect. I believe pulling the power on the host for a few minutes would also have the same effect, after the firmware update.

Here is a link to the download that worked for me:

Hope that helps someone.

Hi Guys,

I faced the same issue and got it fixed with BIOS settings.

I updated the firmware to the latest one.

Went inside the RBSU (Press F9 in post)

Login in to RBSU. Select  Advanced Options-> Thermal Configuration -> Optimal Cooling

undefined

The ILO System information page shows the current fan speed.

My server's fan speed was 100% when it was in Maximum Cooling.

When I picked optimum cooling it went down to 16%.

You would be wondering if the server is ON.

It is silent now. 🙂
