Hi David,

    I received this error the other day. I purchased and received the Restore Kit. I entered it and still got an error trying to run from cd's. I am trying to use the killdisk program but when i select the killdisk program on bios the screen goes black for a minute and then goes back to home screen. all other functions work but this one... any answers? Do i have to purchase the software? or am i not burning all the files needed? Thank you again.

Mark

Here is a .SRD file of Report of my error:

Hi,

I have an HP ENVY TouchSmart Sleekbook 4 1105dx C6N88UA with Windows 8. I tried to recover my computer using HP Recovery Manager and kept getting "Restoration Incomplete" and ChkErrBB.CMD : Detect some error during PININST_BBV.

The only way to complete the restore was to:
- In BIOS change to Legacy Mode;
- Remove the wireless network card;
- Remove the 32GB SSD cache.

After the restore completes you can change back to secure mode and reinstall the two cards. Then install Intel Rapid Storage Technology (from the HP site) and setup acceleration for your hard drives.

How can I install kill disk and image burn if I don't have any operating system in it. This is actually the problem. My system doesn't has any operating system and want to restore the factory setting via my recovery flash USB.

Hi sir did you success to factory reset recovery from hp recovery manager ? after removed ssd card and wireless card,Then you placed both cards back ? If u have done it would u explains me briefly ?

So I had a similar restoration incomplete problem - but I could not get my laptop (4-1115dx) to recognize any drives when trying to set the boot drive in BIOS setup.

This prevented me from using killdisk for exampe.

But this suggestion works. I did not find a legacy mode in BIOS but did remove the SSD and network card and now the F9 works and I see USB drives to select.

Thanks...never would have thought of this of course - and typical of HP software. They never seem to QA software very thoroughly.

Trying killdisk and then restore now...

Dear All,

I am still fighting with this problem, I cannot pass step 4. Do you mean hard  full format and allocated again should be done by Kill Disk?

Best wishs,

Hadi

SOLUTION - For good measure, first use Esc to get into the bios - diable the active keys so you get your fkeys back and - set the boot method to be your recovery media - cdrom or USB etc

Next, reboot and from the HP recovery screen, select your weapon - factory reset, new image etc ... then start the process

don't go away - after the 2nd of the 3 items (copy files to hd), quicly remove the recovery media.  Now, it will use the files it has copied to the HD and wont get confused with the recovery drive - esp during restarts - this time, it should work and you will eventually get back to entering your preferred language and creating your brand new win 8 account again.

Leaving the recovery drive in after the files are copied to the HD and the machine gets itself wrapped up in knots and ends up in the recovery incomplete stage where the 'retry' method asks you to insert media which is already inserted.

happy days.
