Hi @sgreen063,
Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query. I'll be more than glad to help you.
I understand that you are facing issues with your notebook wherein it keeps freezing.
Let's go through a few steps that may help to fix this issue.
And here are a few steps in the link: Computer Locks Up or Freezes (Windows 10, 😎
Let me know if this works.
You have a good day ahead.

ok, so after many different updates , uninstall, reinstall and restores with no success from the support team, i turned to a friend for help.
used HP support to update all drivers, didnt work, still freezing.
used AVG driver updater, still didnt work, still freezing.
used driver identifier, this time it identified drivers that the other software did not pick up, these were for the blue tooth adapter. updated the driver and it got better, much less freezing.
finally used driver genius ($30) and again it identified even more drivers, including for the touch pad and intel devices. i updated these and restarted the laptop.
now i have a working laptop.
what a trial, but finally got there. not something i expect from a top end laptop after 1 week of ownership. but happy now and learned that not all driver update software are equal.
hope some of you out there can use this to fix your issues as well.

This issue is fixed on my 15" spectre, but if you are just now coming across this thread and are having this issue, and still have time to return your HP laptop then I would.
This is a problem that HP has failed to take responsibility for for way too long. There is absolutely no reason for this type of critical flaw in an $1800 laptop. Certainly not when it is a flaw that is clearly documented and roundly ignored.
If you are still in the "return to BestBuy" window, DO IT.
I am teaching a cyber security class and many of the students are carrying these

They are really nice little notebooks and I understand they natively run Linux very well. If you can do without the "flip over to tablet mode" then this is a powerhouse of a laptop.

If I had it to do all over again, I would buy the ASUS Zenbook Pro (UX550VE). I'm past the return time for my HP, so I'm keeping it. When it comes time to replace it though, I'll definitely look elsewhere (except for Dell. I'll NEVER own a Dell).

Bought this 1500$ mother of all laptops, only to find a ton of users like me who have given up on HP for a reliable fix for this one.
This is supposed to be the flaghip HP production, competing against the likes of Macbook Pro but it seems the army of support humonoid have been unable to come up with a clear solution for weeks. How worse could it get? Will never recommend HP laptop to anyone again!!
Sadly, I am out of my BB return window and have to keep up with crap 😕
If any 'human' support person is reading this - 'WHY the hell you can't escalate this to your bosses and come up with a simple way to fix this and share it with everyone? This long thread itself have 5 different solutions and none of them seem to be work for me. The fact that a TON of folks face this isssue, means it is fairly trivial to replicate. And please don't give us the "un-install the rogue program" crap, I faced this issue almost from first week of purchase where I had hardly installed anything.'

I agree, TELL YOUR BOSSES! you are only runing your credit, and if you HP support guys think its funny, its not. your screwing with a lot of people who rely on the computer to actually work. i suggest you offer full refunds or get the damm problem fixed. i havent seen one message yet saying they are working on a fix, its been all customers trying hard, but no help from hp.... Come on! GET YOUR **bleep** TOGETHER HP AND FIX IT! if other manufactures dont have this problem, why do you.

I'm the thread starter and still have this on rare occasions (a couple times a month), but it's not nearly as bad as it once was.
Now my new issue is the charging port. I have to have the cable just right or the thing won't charge. I cannot use it plugged in on my lap because and little movement makes it stop/start charging which changes my power settings (and annoying brightness changes). Time to start a new complaint thread...
