Spectre X360 4193-NR
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey guys,

I'm experiencing quite a dilemma here.

In summer of 2016, I decided to purchase the HP Spectre X360 4193-NR. Been with Apple for the past 5 years but I had really liked the productivity of windows had hence bought this. Costed me around $1500 as it was Microsoft's signature edition. Unfortunately, to this day I regret my decision of going for a HP laptop instead of buying a Microsoft Surface or Dell XPS.

My use of laptop is minimal, probably only a few hours week yet this laptop has given a ton of troubles.

Early in December, I was using my laptop, it was plugged into charging and out of nowhere, suddenly, stopped charging. I tried using the charger for my wife's HP laptop and it still wouldn't charge. I shut it down and called up HP. Now this HP Support representative had me perform some tests and told me that I had a motherboard issue and it might have to get replaced. He proceeded to tell me that it would cost $700+. I was shocked that HP was trying to charge me $700 for a laptop I paid $1500 for (almost 50% of the cost I paid 3.5 years ago). Anyways, I told him I'll get back to him and looked at other options and searched up the issue on the internet. I was surprised to find that I was not the only one having this issue, there were tons of other people who had same series laptop (Spectre-4000) who had their motherboard burned like me. From the looks of it, it was a major design flaw on HPs end that HP failed to recognize.

Now, worried about losing my data and my 1500$ investment I gave in and contacted HP again today. This time the representative told me that they couldn't repair my laptop as it's "lifecycle" has ended and there are no parts available. How does HP go in a month from trying to charge me $700+ to saying they don't produce the parts anymore. This is highly unacceptable and stupid. Apple continues to provide support for my MacBook and it's been almost 6 years. How does an HP laptop that is less than 4 years old have no parts for repair. HP really needs to own up to it's mistake and repair my and many others laptop free of charge as this is something that a lot of other users experienced and it was an issue on their end. Either repair this laptop or provide me with an equivalent replacement / some sort of compensation. No one goes in the market to buy a laptop that only lasts them 4 years.

This is highly unacceptable and disappointing. I'm really going to refrain from buying HP products in the future as from the looks of it they really are producing below par products. I asked the HP representative for HP Corporate's email and he couldn't even provide me with that. Extremely terrible customer service aswell.

I really hope HP can make this right so that I don't have to take any further steps.

Additionally I was wondering if anyone here with the same laptop model no. as me (4193-nr) Spectre X360 13 Microsoft Signature Edition has experienced the same issue.
