HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-ae0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought the laptop in 2017. Last year after a bios update (there can be a windows update as well), the speaker and microphone both stop working. Only the headphone was working. The bios update was directed by HP Support Assistant. Next, I tried to solve the problem by following different posts, mostly found in hp support forums - especially, by deleting the driver and reinstalling it. However, it did not work. In audio inputs and outputs (in device manager), it shows:

- Microphone Array (Realtek High Definition Audio(SST))

- Speaker/Headphone (Realtek High Definition Audio(SST))

I tried to delete/reinstall Intel High Definition Audio. For some reason, the driver was not installed properly (I can see it in the "other devices" with a yellow exclamatory mark). Nothing changed. Rather, after a few days (maybe due to a new Windows update or the Intel High Definition driver issue), I lost even the headphone sound. My windows version (after the latest update) is 1909. I am with this problem for more than a year. Now, due to the coronavirus issue, I have started working remotely, and this audio issue has made my life terrible. I cannot attend the zoom or other meetings on my laptop. I am using my phone. I never had a bad experience like this with HP laptops. I have had three HP laptops, and this one is the most expensive. However, I am having a terrible experience with it. A solution would be highly appreciated. If you need further information, please let me know.

P.S.: In the recovery manager, I can see that "HP recovery manager no longer supports this feature after windows upgrade solution" for "reinstall driver and/or application" and "Windows recovery environment."

@Ashiq2503 I'm glad you've done the BIOS update and reinstalled the drivers for the audio, I have a few more steps to add to it and we should be able to resolve this issue together, let's get started:

here's what you need to do:

Step 1: Right-click on the Start button in the taskbar area and then click Device Manager to open the same.

Step 2: In the Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers.

Step 3: You should now see your audio driver name. Most likely you have Realtek High Definition Audio, Right-click on it and then click Uninstall device option.

Step 4: You will now get the following confirmation dialog. Select Delete the driver software for this device checkbox and then Yes button when you see the confirmation dialog to go ahead and uninstall the device driver.

Restart your PC once & it should auto-reinstall a working driver.

If the issue with the sound continues, The best way to resolve the issue is by using the HP Guided Troubleshooter:

CLICK HERE FOR STEP BY STEP GUIDE

(simply select your description of the issue from the bottom of the screen to gain access to the next set of steps that should resolve your concern).

P.S: Welcome to HP Community 😉
