Update two days later.  Huge issues with Microsoft and getting into the machine after a restore.

Anyway today I used the Powerdirector and the same project where it was overheating to over 90C.  New fan and motherboard you will recall.  Well amazingly it did not budge a single degree C when rendering it again after a minor edit.  WOW....

I am still worried that something else will happen given the track record here.  Moral of story is to KEEP checking your temperatures every couple of months as something can be evolving and you do NOT want this after the guarantee runs out...

The listed hardware costs were $1200 and labour just $42 and transport $20...I obviously was not charged!
So it does look as though the machine CAN process quite intensive work OK and you MAY have another issue?

Hope helpful.

In my case, HP support did not provide me with a hardware upgrade solution. I was in service for diagnose, they see something can be strange ... but no solution ...  they told me that need to be keept in service more time for diagnose or to let to work in crash test for arround 24 hours.  The laptop past all HP tests... have moments when temperatures are ~55 degree... but in many cases more that 75-80 degree... In crash tests i'm not really agree, because I force to overheat many components and final solution to be unfavorable for me...

It's strange that laptop overheating and in bios, but in high usage works well..

I don't know if this helps but the first time I had the overheating, which was even higher and earlier with simple video rendering I took a video of what was going on with the video and Speccy running at the same time.  Support said this was very helpful and they send a technician around to replace the heatsink.

The second time I had the video but interestingly perhaps because there was also the bluescreens appearing with increasing frequency they just got it returned.....it is now a year old almost to the day.

So perhaps if you do the same it can show them what is going on?

If it is under warranty and not fit for purpose and they do not know what is going on then surely they should replace it....you cannot be without your PC for days on end especially if it is for work...I am semi retired so less implications perhaps?

Hope helps

I am afraid I have some REALLY bad news for owners of this machine.

I spent the day editing that video slideshow that showed me there was an issue before.
You recall that when I rendered it this morning there was NO increase in temperature.

The awful news is that when I re rendered it just now the temperature was again up in the 90s. (max 94).

I lifted the PC onto a plastic wedge that is supposed to increase the air flow around the PC.

It lowered it perhaps 2C for a minute or so and then went up again.

When the film was rendered it took about 10m far longer than when it was overheating two weeks ago

to get back to orange 60s.  I closed the program and that helped a bit and I closed the Ashampoo Snap

and that again helped.....

SO I have just asked HP whether there is a fundamental issue with this machine regarding it being EVER able

to deal with  the heat.......this is serious.....unlikely my heat sink fan and motherboard are again at fault unless of course

they are as good as it gets....

Thoughts anyone.....btw they checked the bios of course...

By the way when I asked HP support whether I should upgrade to windows 11 as part of my own overheating problems they said do NOT do this as there are too many bugs still in the OS......just a thought...

I am interacting with HP on the recurrence of my problem.  It seems OK first thing in morning but recurred after a few hours of use. The rendering of the JUST 11m slideshow overheats.  A far simpler (fewer transitions and not multiple channels) video rendering results in no problem at all. I thought you might like to see what I did last time I had the problem.  HP said it really helped.  It is a screen grab of the video I take during the rendering. It shows the temperature of the core and graphics processors, the progress of the video and what programs are loaded.  Hope helps others.  I will update what happens with HP....I really cannot face it going back again......!!!!

I think have no link with CPU overheating... but as idea...

I was told by HP Support not to update to Windows 11 for this machine as it has too many bugs still.

Updating my problem with overheating.  After the new motherboard and fans it actually was WORSE! Higher temperatures

and for longer 85-94C.  HP sent an engineer to my home and replaced with a THIRD NEW motherboard. He said sometimes they replace with reconditioned motherboards....hmmm.....
Anyway spoke to HP as I noticed underneath the PC around the vents it was too hot to touch.  She checked and the BIOS was from last year.....surely this should have been checked? Replaced the bios and it is now running much cooler, I notice the fan is coming on more often too..... However, i9 IS running slightly hot at times...asking them if it is OK...awaiting response......

Hmm, maybe you have premium warranty.

In my case was necessary to go to the service ... They required me to let it a few days, but not possible in my case, because I work from this laptop.

So, if they replaced the system board and problem persists that means the laptop model was not designed well ...

This is exactly what I assumed from the beginning ... the software not communicate well with hardware ....

I had similar CPU overheating on windows 10 pro (original windows from laptop) ...  I was waiting for the update to windows 11 in the hope that the problem will be solved ... Aslo, daily I check for new updates ....

Hi No just standard 3y warranty they came to my house as 1) the heatsink needing replacing at 2m 2) sending machine to them did not solve the problem......
I am asking them now whether the i9 is performing as they would expect....low 80Cs 15% into a 30m video rendering then down to mid 70Cs....i9 at 60s and less stressed when first turn on!
