HP/Compaq nc6400 notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a nc 6400 notebook  Product number: RB518UT#ABA am using a ATI mobility Radeon x1300 graphic card and also Intel(R) mobile express 965G with chipset available. I have selected to use windows classic desktop for the moment and no issue at all there  now. I don't know about Vsync or 2D having any partbut I disabled Aero, windows "themes" clear text, shaows asmuch as I could think of  and still the text either erases using my own curser as eraser or just disappears and leavesablank tile with not a spec left. Alsooccasionaly gibberish most are black lines not any formal language but today I thought almost a post script type of nonsense shows up some......in certain mobile tiles that may refresh but even that is not working as it always has ... I am at a loss I need a decent graphics card as I use photoshop and dreamweaver allt/both  daily and at least they need to operate as best as possible. I have not had any problems running them on this machine for the past 4 yeas or so. Matter of fact there has been now 4 OS on this great machine which has not had any problems in the past 7 years. It has 4gig of memory and 750 gig hard drive and wellis missing touch screen features but..that did not worry Windows when they checked it all to verify.  I am finally beyond my capabilities and need assistance. Even if I need to build my own divers I will although that will not be the swiftest answer but I can see the need to know how  toalter drivers would be an asset right about now.  Please any and all

suggestions will be an asset as I am at a "what to do now frustration level "and wish I knew more about the possible  reason for this .I just have been so lucky that my machine has never had any issues that were close to this kind of thing.

TY for any assistance ,answers ,any possible  help, you can think of.  Hopefully I have provided a clear  problem and most of  the information that you need . I never have used a service such as forums ,other than looking up possible  problems that others may have had as well.  That has always helped if I was unsure but never as tough an issue as is occuring now.

Ty for any and all possible assistance  or suggestions that can point me in right direction.

Hi:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to manually install the Vista graphics driver from your notebook's support and driver page and see if that works...

BTW, the nc6400 has the mobile Intel 945 chipset, not the 965.  The 6910p has the 965 chipset.

Download and run this driver...You will most likely get an Unsupported Operating System error.

http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=1847705&swItemId=ob_59975_1&swEnvOid=2103...

Close out of any error windows.

Go to the device manager and click on the Video Controller (or Microsoft Basic Display Adapter) needing drivers.

Click on the driver tab.

Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp38833.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

Then reboot.

If your nc6400 has that problem with the SMSC infrared driver with the ! mark, I went into the BIOS, found the Ports menu, and disabled the infrared port, saved the setting and rebooted.

That got rid of that device issue.

I don't know of anyone that uses the infrared port anyway.

You're very welcome.

I sure hope it works for you!

Isn't the nc6400 something?

Mine has run Windows 2000, XP, Vista, W7, W8.1 and now W10 without a hitch (other than the infrared driver)!

Mine has the Intel graphics adapter though.

Manually installing the Intel Vista graphics driver worked for me on W7, 8.1 and 10.
