HP Spectre x360 - 15-df0002no
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Touchpad not recognised in Windows (20H2) - works fine before windows starts up in HP system test so touchpad itself is operational. System test showed no errors. Hard reboot done to no avail.

Stopped working yesterday, would assume a windows update broke it but cannot roll back to previous version as it says more than 10 days have passed. There is no touchpad or mouse showing up in devices list in control panel at all now.

No compatible driver available on HP support page.

Thank you for any help or guidance on this mystery issue!

Hello

Unfortunately it did not, just tried installing it.

After my last post, I managed to find in the Device Manager, in the Human Interface Devices list a non-functioning device. It shows an error on the "I2C HID Device" and says "This device cannot start. (Code 10) A request for the HID descriptor failed".

I read enabling this device would prompt touchpad to reappear on Device Manager list and it did. I for a few hours got my toucpad working. Now it just stopped working again and disabling/re-enabling does nothing unfortunately. Any more ideas on what it going on?

hey
here are some things you can try:
first , update bios to latest

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp131501-132000/sp131758.exe

1. Connect an external USB mouse then run the Hardware Troubleshooter:

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Troubleshoot
Scroll down
Click Hardware and Devices
Click Run the Troubleshooter

When complete, restart to see if the problem is resolved.

2. Press Windows key + X
Click Device Manager
Expand Human interface devices
Right click HID-compliant touch pad

(If you don't see your touch pad listed, look under 'Mice and other pointing devices')

Click uninstall. Exit then restart.

3.

Click Start > Settings > Devices > Touchpad
Under Related settings, click Additional settings

This might launch the Synaptics or Mouse Properties for your touch pad

Click the TouchPad tab then click Restore defaults.

let us know if it help

Hi - thank you again

Ran into an issue with the 1st step of updating BIOS - it does not allow for this to be done? Current is AMI F.42 and offered update is F.45?

It says an update is not possible and I only have the option of creating a flashdrive or "save to a file location (Advanced user)".  Am I trying to run the incorrect BIOS-version?

I am sadly on Windows 19042 (20H2), and cannot roll back to the previous build anymore. I have only ever managed to keep my laptop working properly on the previous build, and at some stage it had managed to update without me noticing = it was too late to roll back to the previos version as more than 10 days had passed. My microphone does not work on for example Zoom on this build either. Am thinking a BIOS update might help with this issue as well.
