Hi,

I use a HSTNN-S02X USB docking station to dock my HP2540p laptop to a 24" Samsung monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse, printer, scanner and ethernet. OS is Windows 7 professional 64 bit. When docked, I have the video set up to display only on the external monitor.

It has always worked great, except that if the laptop is allowed to sleep, sometimes when woken up, it would freeze. Sometimes it recovers after a few minutes, but usually I have to force a reboot. DisplayLink Core Software Version: 5.3.24474.0

In an attempt to fix this problem, I downloaded the latest driver for the USB docking station from the HP support center - ver 6.0.33743.0,  file name sp54248.exe.  Ever since, the video on my external monitor goes blurry intermittently. When I Alt-Tab to another program, the video recovers, but after a few seconds it goes blurry again. But not always - at the moment all is fine.

I played a song with Windows Media Player and when dragging the window, the window's contents stay behind and the default media player background moves with the frame.

Can anyone suggest a course of action?

Hi,

I have a similar problem with this, the image goes blurry from time to time, we have tried to replicate several times but the issue is fairly intermittent.

It seems to effect Web browsing more than anything else, with webpages going blurry.

We have updated the drivers for the port replicator and this has made no difference, we have also replaced the dvi-vga adapter with no change either.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you,

David

Hi David,

I downloaded the latest DisplayLink software directly from Displaylink's website at http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php and it seems to have solved my blurry video problem.  Looks like HP's version is older.

My laptop still freezes sometimes after being allowed to sleep, but it might be unrelated to the docking station.

Cheers

We use several of these USB docking stations in the firm I work for(Computer consulting firm that supports a large accounting firm). We started to notice an issue similar to what you are describing. We ended up tracking down the issue to a Windows Update. The problems occurred mostly within Internet Explorer, however, it would also occur within other programs, but it was much less noticeable. Once we removed Windows update KB2670838 this resolved our issues. This was a platform update that Microsoft released for Windows 7 based computers for the upcoming release of Internet Explorer 10. If you are using Internet Explorer 10, DO NOT uninstall this update. However, if you are experiencing issues with these docking stations related to video, especially in Internet Explorer 9, uninstall that update and it will most likely fix your problem.
