HP ENVY Sleekbook 4 PC
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello all.

I have an Envy Ultrabook with one factory hard drives.  When attempting to boot, an error message is displayed with...

"hard disk error"

"please run the Hard Disk Test in System Diagnostics"

"hard disk 2 (3F2)"

"F2 System Diagnostics"

When I run the disk 2 "Hard Disk Test", both the quick check and the Extensive Check show "passed,"  yet the computer will not boot.

Any Ideas on how to get this to boot??

The second hard drive is a small mSATA mSSD and they can go bad. They hold the boot files, too which explains why it will not boot if that little mSATA drive is corrupt. You could get it to boot by removing the little drive and running a Windows repair disk on it with a fixboot command so it places the boot files back on the main hard drive. Then you could replace the mSSD and set the IRST acceleration back up. The little drive is used to accelerate the main hard drive i.e. make it run faster so without the small hard drive you will notice it running slower.

This probably is confusing so react and post back so we can see where you are.

Hey Provost,

thank you for your reply.

Your were right. The mSDD is corrupt.

I removed it and run the Window repair disk as you advided me. Iam now face to the next problems:

This is what i do up to now:

- I access the command prompt via the recovery boot disk.

 - It loads: X:/Windows/System32

I type in "chkdks C: /r" so it would read X:/Windows/System32/chkdsk C: /r
It then tells me "can not open volume for direct access"

Therefore iam not more sure that my windows was installed on C:

It is possible that Windows was installed on the mSSD i removed before?

I hope i can help me again
