Hard disk sentinel and Crystal Disk info showing poor disk health due to large reallocated sectors. The extended test of the hard drive passed from HP UEFI Diagnostics utility. But from third part software like Hard Disk sentinel SMART test fails due to large reallocated sector count. I want to replace my hard drive before it fails. Will HP replace the hard drive?Capture.PNGine

Is it under warranty?

Yeah it is.

Then start a support case on it. SMART errors are SMART errors and if there are bad sectors you would think the HP diagnostic tool would pick them up. But the tools you are using are reliable and I would hope HP would recognize they justify a replacement hard drive. Sometimes they will just ship you one and have you return the bad one. I assume you are fully backed up?

I contacted the support and they told as the uefi diagnostic tool has shown the test as passed we won't be able to replace the drive. And yeah i have full backup.

Seems a rather rigid position for them to take. Let me see if I can bump it up for review. No promises but watch your PM for contact from HP.

And just for my information, did you run a good old chkdsk on the drive? If there are bad sectors they will show up there.

HP Recommended

It would be very helpful if u can arrange for it. Yeah tested with chkdsk no errors found.

If chkdsk finds no errors I have my doubts then.

I have checked with a number of hdd monitoring tool and few are showing the reallocated sector count as an issue. Maybe as it is shifted to a spare area chkdsk is unable to detect it. I have run chkdsk with /f /r /x flags.

No the hard drive keeps track of reallocating sectors and any SMART diagnostic tool including chkdsk should be able to see that if it happened. Are you actually having performance issues? A hard drive with that many reallocated sectors would be booting slow, running slow, acting squirrely.
