There isn't some strange random function button combo that could have turned this off??

Hi,

Not that I've heard of.  Did the last procedure to reinstall the chipset driver and uninstall the audio device make no difference?

It had no effect on the sound, still no change.  Is there a way to get to the sound card and backs of speakers on this thing with any ease?

HP Recommended

Hi,

The sound chip is integrated in to the Mother Board but the speakers can be accessed, however it's not the easiest thing to get to.  The method starts on Page 75 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

When accessing the BIOS i did get the chirp sound they have, does that come from the speakers or an internal piece?

HP Recommended

Hi,

I'm fairly certain it uses the same speakers.

When you look under Sound Video and Game Controllers in Device Manager, are there other devices listed?

Not sure, I have just installed a 2nd OS ubuntu on it and am updating all the linux stuff to see if it will work through linux and not win.

HP Recommended

looks like hardware, ubuntu does not work with sound either

HP Recommended

Hi,

Considering all the options we've tried and the fact that you have no sound with Ubuntu either, I would say you're correct that this is a Hardware issue.  If your notebook is still under warranty, you can contact HP Here to arrange to have it repaired.

Hope you get it sorted out.

Thank you so much for all your help.  I am just going to run into town and grab a USB sound card and hopefully be done with it.

Thanks again!
