I have a fairly new HP. I at least bought it new.. It is a 2000 2B44DX I know it's a low end machine but all I could afford.
I have had a HDD die and have ordered new disks(original backup DIDN'T WORK!) in the meantime could u tell me how to install linux Manjaro? It is USFI compatible. I have loaded operating systems more than I care to admit.I installed Windows 3 and 3.1all the way back in 1987 or so..
The UEFI thing is something I won't go into here.I want to get linux installed then when I get the reinstall media in maybe reload and dual boot. I have loaded a bunch of linux distributions also, again with-0-problems. If I can get over this 'hump' I'll be fine.
Back to the subject. Exactly how to get Linux installed so I can stay on the time line with the computer classes I take. All I need to be assisted with is how to deal with UEFI on this HP2000 2B44DX so it will boot and run. I saw somewhere else it may need another partition for the Linux Bootloader. It cannot be a huge deal can it? Please help!

Make sure you create your HP Recovery Discs or USB Flash Recovery media before modifying or changing ANYTHING.
The screen shots below are from an HP 15t-j100 notebook computer... the options and configuration screens on your computer may differ.
You will need to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the "BIOS Secure Boot configuration" on the settings page similar to what is shown below, before you can attempt to install Linux;
After saving the changes, the computer will request that you confirm the changes... Accept the changes by typing the four digit code and pressing the "ENTER" key.
Additionally, as the hard drive is most likely partitioned as GPT, you must boot using the UEFI-Internal CD/DVD or UEFI-USB Key/Drive to install Windows on a GPT partitioned disk. If the DVD refuses to boot as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive as the installation media. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid UEFI enabled USB Flash drive if it is formated as NTFS and may require a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer, or WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, as it has options for "GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer" and "FAT32".
Turn on or reboot the computer and tap "F9" or "ESC" and then "F9" when prompted. Highlight the UEFI boot source you are using and press "ENTER".
Please see UEFI - Install Guide - Manjaro Linux for more information on this subject.

I deleted ALL the partitions when I first started to install Manjaro a couple of nights ago. I have Manjaro 64 bit ISO on a live CD. It ran and would allow me to install with ti the other night. DO I still need to change my install process? Also I have disabled secure boot in the BIOS. I have installed Manjaro many times before but never on a UEFI system. I am a newbie as far as installing on a UEFI system. I have never used "Rufus" but am open to it. I do not know a thing about different types of partitions so if you could try and help my dumb butt I would sincerely appreciate it. Looking back I would have left it alone. Now I don't have much choice.
When I first bought this machine I tried to make the recovery disks. Part of the way through it hung up and when I tried to start over it kept saying the disks had already been made. I ordered the recovery disks from HP the other night so I have them coming. Hopefully they will be the correct ones and work right.
"Additionally, as the hard drive is most likely partitioned as GPT, you must boot using the UEFI-Internal CD/DVD or UEFI-USB Key/Drive to install Windows on a GPT partitioned disk." lost me here. I do not want to insatall Windows.
Thanks.

This install is way to easy to be made this hard. After reading for a day or two I decided to take what made sense and try it on my own.
1. Turn off secure boot and leave UEFI alone.
2. Whenn booting media go to boot selection and pick the one that says something to the effect of USB....UEFI or DVD ...UEFI. Just he one with UEFI on the end.
3. Go to the GUI installer.
4.When prompted to partion own drive do so.
5.Make a partition of 250M select to format to FAT32 and mount point of /boot/UEFI
6.Continue install as any other time.
7.Restart when prompted.
8. USE YOUR LINUX OS.
For the record....10s of thousands of Windows users wouldn't be jumping ship if not for the Windows 8 debaucle. Well there are a few other things.
Thanks HP for making a good product.
