I have a hard disc problem. When I install a new hard drive, I am asked to insert a boot disc. How do I create a boot disc for this computer? I have another computer same model that is normal operation.

You need more than just a boot disk you need a recovery disk. If you have another computer of the same model that has the same Windows version on it and original HP software you can use the HP Recovery Manager to make an HP recovery disk set. Please check the other computer's list of programs and see if recovery manager is present. That will be the easiest way.
If not we can use Windows 7 tools to make a repair (boot) disk and then use the repair disk to restore a system image from the other computer to the one that needs a new hard drive.

Yes, we all forget to do things we should. Luckily he has another computer of the same model and the restore disks from that one should work on the one with the busted hard drive. Most people do not have a spare identical laptop laying around.

I do not think the recovery image for each computer is different. The HP Recovery Manager makes a restore disk that will work on the same model. They are the same as the disks you can order from HP, which are not keyed to a specific unit. This is Windows 7, not Windows 8. Anyway, the OP has long disappeared from here.
