I have Pavillion dv5-1254us notebook running Windows Vista 64 bit. Trying to install Lexmark X5410 printer. Error message reads "failed to create print object Lexmark x5400 series. Printer driver not compatible with policy enabled on computer that blocks NT 4.0 drivers". How do I disable policy?

Yes, tried them both. Lexmark support clearly has no idea what to do even though they advertise on the outside of the box that it is supposed to work with Windows Vista 32 and 64 bit. If solution ever found, would appreciate an E-mail-and I'm sure all others with same problem would appreciate a heads-up also.

thanks for the links but they don't apply to Windows Vista Home Edition 64 bit and the printer is not on a network. Have tried contacting Lexmark but they clearly have no idea how to obtain the user mode printer drivers mentioned on the links. Thanks again and if you ever find a way to obtain the needed drivers, please contact me.

Hi,
Yes the link is not for Windows Vista as it is a work around to fix the problem as Vista doesnt support kernel mode drivers. Agian thats a tech jargon.
I guess you already tried the drivers below from Lexmark support:
Driver for Microsoft Windows XP x64 and Vista x64.
Once downloaded save the file on the desktop, then right click and select " Run As Administrator".
