HP Stream 13
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I wiped the entire hard drive on my HP Stream 13 including the recovery partition.  I want to reinstall Windows 8.1 on the drive.  I downloaded the Windows 8.1 ISO from Microsoft's website.  When I try to install it I get promted for a product key.  It should see that the hardware already has a license for Windows 8.1 and not prompt me for a key.  What do I need to do to get Windows 8.1 installed?

The Stream 13 is licensed for Windows 8.1 with Bing, it does not cover the Windows 8.1 ISO that you downloaded, that is why you are being prompted for a product key.  I have heard there are Windows 8.1 with Bing ISO's available but they are not official.  If you did not create a recovery USB before wiping the drive, you could also purchase the recovery media from HP or possibly install Windows 10.

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and product number (p/n) of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.

The above requested information can be found on the side, back, or bottom of your computer, or on the startup BIOS screen. Please see How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? for more assistance locating this information. DO NOT include your serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and post it here for our review.

Please use the HP Recovery Media you previously created to return the computer to a factory like state. If you didn't create your HP Recovery Media when you first setup your computer, either order Recovery Media from your product's support page or contact official HP support in your region / country, via the HP Worldwide Support Portal, to see if HP Recovery Media is available for your computer.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
