I want to type a Cover letter and a Resume and save it to my computer. I dont want to use Office trial period and my laptop didnt come with word. I just want to be able to type on a blank document and save it. I bought this laptop at Best Buy in Dec. 2014 and cant type out a simple letter. Please give me some suggestions other than using a trial period Office or Word. Im afraid they will charge me before I cancel the trial period. I have a HP AMD A8 laptop with touch screen. It has Windows 8...please help.

If you're not interested in downloading anything, Windows 7 and Windows 8 both have utility called Wordpad.
WordPad is not terribly fancy but probably adequate for your needs.
Here's a link to information about WordPad in Windows 8.
And this takes you to info about Worpad in Win 7, but has good instructions on its use that should be applicable in Windows 8 version.
I hope something either DavidPK or I have suggested will help you.
Thanks,

If you're not interested in downloading something new, Windows has a utility as part of the OS.
In either Windows 7 or 8 you should have a utility called WordPad. It's sort of an abbreviated ersion or Word and is probably sufficient to meet your needs.
Here is a link to instructions to find WordPad in Windows 8.
And here is a link to Using WordPad, instructions that should be for Windows 7 and Windows 8.
Hopefully something either I, or DavidPK has suggested will help you.
Thanks,
