Greg,

You apparently purchased that notebook with a multi-national or French Canadian keyboard.

I am a little surprised that the on-screen keyboard layout does not reflect the actual installed keyboard -- I have never seen a French Canadian keyboard so it may not be an issue to those familar with the setup.

I would think, after some research, that you can change the keyboard layout with the instructions previously given -- it is true that this would not change the actual visual representation and that might be confusing if you do not have a means to mentally "map" the key changes.

I did look up the use of a multi-national / Canadian / French-Canadian keyboard for you using my favorite search engine -- while I did not find your exact keyboard structure (and I might have missed it during this cursory search) -- I did find that this keyboard is made to accept special key combinations.

Blue keys: Right ALt + letter

Red keys require the "dead" key + desired key to get special key accents  (This may not be relevant on your keyboard.)

You are going to have to do some homework -- that keyboard is apparently consistant with the French Canadian setup.

I don't have the problem any longer. I found the Solution.  I needed to go in to control panel then to keyboard then language and select the multi lingual keyboard option and then apply and then save.  Now it is like a normal keyboard just have to hit shift key and then apostrophe key.    Thank you for you help.  Once you told me I had a Multi lingual keyboard it was easy to fix
