hi
I have an HP Pavilion DV5 - 1116em and Installed Windows 7 - 32 bit
I want to boot from external CD/DVD Drive Attached to USB Port but I can't
When I insert an external Flash Drive on USB Port it shows an option on the boot menu that enabled me to boot from it
but When I Attach the External CD/DVD Drive the option on booting from external USB Drive not shown on boot menu
Note: I use LG-GH2Ns30 Drive With Sata/IDE adapter to connect the drive to usb port and I can use this way to boot and install windows on other laptops and desktop computers but not on my DV5
and I can use the drive normally inside windows installed on dv5 but not booting from the drive

Press the power button, immediately tap the Esc key to invoke the startup menu and then choose F9 in the startup menu. Now you should see the usb DVD\CD drive in the Boot manager options. Choose it to boot from a DVD\CD in the drive.
The only way the preceding would be the case is if there is a problem with the usb port, the usb cable , the CD'DVD usb drive or the BIOS UEFI environment on the hard disk.

erico

I'm using this way
the compuetr succeeded in this way on Flash drives smoothly but not on the cd/dvd drive and the drive boots from usb on other computer smoothly that means that the drive and it's cables are OK 100%
additionally the drive works fine on the same laptop inside windows that means no problem in usb port also
I've tried all usb ports on the laptop ot works fine inside windows no boot from usb

Does the DVD drive in your notebook work?
If it does, then why are you trying to use a portable dvd drive to boot in this odd fashion?

no the drive in my laptop is not working fine in many cases it fails to read disks or boot from disks that other drives can boot from it smoothly

Is your notebook in warranty or is it well beyond the one year of ownership?

If cleaning the lens with a kit doesn't restore the drive's capabilities just replace the drive.
I would look up the part number in the Maintenence & Service guide, locate a replacement from an online vendor, purchase one and install it.

thank you
I can find a replacement and replace the laptop drive easily
but I was hopping for a solution that use existing items in my workshop
stays the big question why many other desktop computers and laptops can boot from my sata/IDE connected Drive and this hp model only can't
thank you for your assistant
