I grasp that you want to control the fan speed manually. Here is a document on HP CoolSense Technology that may interest you. Here is a link to Control Your Computer's Fan Speeds for Better Performance When You Need It, Silence When You Don't from lifehacker by Whitson Gordon. I hope this has addressed your concern.

Hir ravipe,
Thank you for your reply.
There are no settings you can change to control the fan speed. Due the compactness of notebooks, heat can built up rapidly and the fan kicks in to prevent it from overheating. You can check in the bios, sometimes there is an option to have the fan run continuously. If the fan is constantly running( and it is not set to continuously run in the bios) or noisy it could indicate another issue.
If you have any further questions or concerns would you provide the exact model of Envy M6 you have and the operating system you are running. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

That is exactly my problem. In my opinion the fan is not running fast enough most of the times and the notebook is constantly overheating. Already cleared the vents and everything, updated drivers, bios, etc. And keeps happening. If I could set the fan to run always at 100% (I really don't mind the noise) I think I would have less overheating problems. The model is Envy M6 1105dx.

Hi ravipe,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend!
If the option for fan always on is available, it will be in the bios under system configuration. On startup press the F10 key approximately once every second, this should bring into the bios options. Go to system configuration and check for fan always on and enable it it is disabled. You mentioned that you are experiencing frequent overheating issues but have already cleaned the vents. There is a bios update for your system, it your current version is not VersionF.35, 8.97M then I recommend that you update it.Here is a link to a document on Troubleshooting an Overheating and Auto Shutdown Issue, that may be helpful.

I understand that the fan noise is annoying you. You have changed the fan setting to not be continuously on but it still runs and is loud.
The notebook is designed to run the fan, dissipating the heat to prevent damage. If it never ran it could cause an overheating issue and auto shut down. The overheating could also cause possible damage.
Here is a link to assist you with this issue: HP Notebook PCs - Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly, PC is Warmer than Normal.
There is a bios update to F.22A . If you have not yet updated the bios you can try that. Please be aware that updating the bios does have a potential to cause damage, I suggest contacting HP support for assistance with that process.
Please contact HP support at Contact HP Support.
Here is a link to the HP ENVY m6-n012dx Notebook PC Software and Drivers Page. I am unsure of what your operating system is but under Windows 8.1 is the bios update.
Please post back with the results.
Good Luck!
