Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for your post.
This is a very old model and it is probably out of support anymore (at least the Windows XP is).
If your PC arrived with Windows preinstalled (you wrote above it has XP) and if the recovery partition is working correctly, please follow the official HP instructions >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07145
