HP Recommended

With each and every computer I have owned before this one, or have ever used anywhere, f4 locks the cell reference by inserting the $ sign before the row and column of the cell to be thus fixed in a formula.  How does one do that in my new Pavilion dv5?  Some innovator in HP has discarded this proven, familiar method .... for what???
