Over time Lithium based batteries will slowly "forget" where their 0% and 100% points are (this can be worsened if you use the AC power constantly). So, it is often good maintenance to manually calibrate the notebook battery for optimum performance. I suggest doing this every two months.
- Fully charge your battery.
- Reboot your notebook and enter the BIOS. You may then follow this article on running the hard drive test. While performing this test unplug your notebook from the AC power and allow the hard drive test to fully drain the battery.
- After the battery is drained replace the AC power and fully charge the battery.
- Use the HP Battery Check to ensure that no futher problems are detected with your battery.
For more information on batteries and calibration please see this document.
