REALLY SOLVED NOW

- The problem was a bad internal SATA cable. I replaced it, but after the the hard drive test, i got the

SMART not installed and the other was  DST warning. But it was good enough to use the recovery disks

and move along. After running windows 8, I also was able to update the bios using the given service

pack on the hp site, from windows on the problem machine.

The new bios is much better.

This is a great, simpler solution, but it doesnt work. I repost:

  • This looks promising, but when I execute the sp66782 file, I dont get anything, just an error message. If it unpacks it somewhere, I dont see it, either on desktop or a temp directory. It gives me these error messages,
  •
  • IHISI: Get support mode  fail in SMI
  • BIOS did not support InsydeFlash
  •
  • which, since I run this on a non HP laptop, it is not surprizing that I get an error message and no files.
  •
  • Any ideas on how to get the BIOS file?

I downloaded the uefi sp for this model, and it behaved correctly, but didnt do anything for the pc.

Can someone fix this service patch??

Perhaps I should start a new thread.

The HP insydeflash utility to creat a flash USB for BIOS update only works on HP's computers.  However, when your BIOS have problem, you cannot boot your computer and obivously you need to use another computer to run this utility, and which is most likely not a HP computer!!!!!  That's why we all encounter this problem!!!

Finally, i found the solution in this youtube: https://youtu.be/O2W6FZ64dmI

Follow the instruction on the youtube to extract the bios file.  Then use the HP's UEFI interface to flash it.  You may need to create a UEFI flash usb and copy the bios files to the flash usb.

It spent me a whole day to figure it out!  I hope it can help the others!

Thapav I actually understand what you are saying. Make the bootable usb for the machine needing the repair using a different working machine. I have done this and created the usb for the broken machine. When I boot the other machine it does not have a bios at all just the hp screen with the few test options which it passes all of so it will not auto boot the flash drive with the bios. I have tried the holding down the windows and b button at the same time and it tries to go to the bios install and repair option but no beeps and remains black screened with lights flashing and never actually does anything. Is there anyway to get it to boot to the usb with the bios? Or is this thing actually bricked?
