Interesting info in this thread.

I realised that I moved my 'One time' HP Recovery data off a USB stick and onto an external HDD. Is there a means of making this data bootable again?

As far as the issue regarding Samsung Migration software being unable to clone certain HP partitions, the other option is to use Windows recovery options such as system image or recovery? This will mean I lose the ability to return the computer back to its original settings though.

Any thoughts?

Just to add I installed a Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB SSD and it is all working OK. Initially the disk space was showing nearly full due to a strange temporary file associated with the Samsung Magician software. The file was registering 642 GB in size...

To delete this I had to uninstall Magician as I couldnt unlock the file from it's handle. Once Magician was reinstalled all was OK.

As far as cloning recovery partitions goes, the Samsung cloning software registered 'D' the recovery partition but I opted not to have this cloned based on previously mentioned issues here and elsewhere.

In Disk Management, the 2 smaller partitions with no drive letters assigned show up. Whether they are functional or not I'm not sure as I settled with Windows recovery options in the end.

Just got myself an HP 15-AK085NA and figure what the hell I'll try and fit an SSD. Seems a shame to waste the I7 on the normal hard drive.

Reading through the thread seems straight forward. Software side of things should be fine as I have already done my desktop using macrium to make an image and all went well. Only things that worries me is the physical removal and replacement in the laptop.

I take it nothing has changed they are all the same connectors inside. Is there a recommended SSD that fits better than others?

All you need is a 2.5 in. SATA SSD.  That is the standard configuration.

I recommend using an SSD of  256 Gb or higher capacity.  My own preference is the SamSung EVO 850 series.

Have you tried recovering from the Macrium image?

Haven't had a lot of luck with the laptop. It was really slow and on investigation the retailer said the windows install was corrupted. So I havent' gone ahead with this after all as I got a refund. Thanks anyway
