FIRST: If you run into this, IT IS NOT YOUR HARD DRIVE!!!!! that is a problem.

SECOND: Try booting through USB External, sometimes can bring you to Drive Lock and asks for bay pass, hit enter...

brings you to START UP IN SAFE MODE OR NORMALLY n what nots.

THIRD: When I ran Into this problem simply removed the HD and the adapter ribbon, restarted with USB CD its a EMERGENCY BOOT CD, opened MINI XP, checked the HD's(multiple) all fine, reboot, ran startup checks, all that, reboot, finally, no error ( ren into that relief using my SECOND method )

Havent completely got up and running but when i git it i can detail with pictures and info on a FIX!

Well I have seperate HDD's so i swap them from my computer every now and again, and just recently got a external usb hook up to access them, and somehow i felt this was IT, and IT was....

my computer is giving me the 1782 ERROR and there are NO damages or malfunctions i can assure you this, ive checked them on other computers, ran tests, COMPLETELY wiped one, used different id types and even got one to have a bootable LINUXKEY  partition,

i know what im doing when it comes to formatting and all that , there is no data corruption or anything like that, i ran the startup check continually with all pass but it wont boot correctly,

it stays at the disk controller error then windows rerror recovery

it doesnt boot completely it just, restarts, maybe reg error of some sort or corruption idk, maybe have to reinstall?

HP Recommended

If you want to reinstall i always can help you but not yet.

No, that had to do with a CD drive, My HP Compaq 2710p has no CD drive

HP Compaq 2710p Windows Vista Business OEM (Windows XP Pro Downgradeable)

ERROR 1782-Disk Controller Failure-Run Startup Check (is My Message)

note ... There is NO HDD attatched anymore, and I still get the error code

okay i did that, didnt help the error, still pops up during start up, then goes to non system disk or disk error

when i use Emergency Boot Disks, Windows XP or even Vists CD's they show NO HD's connected unless through USB port which Vista cannot install to because it does not support installation through these ports.

The ZIF adapter to the laptop is fine, so is the female plug attatched to the motherboard...but does NOT even recognise or even spin the HD's ... For a week i changed the HD a few times or more and this is one of those (All Of A Sudden" type errors

My laptop has no CD drive built in so the disk error information i found from 1790-1793 or 4 i believe all have to do with the optical drive or something physical that was never some appendage of this tablet notebook previously.

I have my product regestered along with a few other products, i have some more to keep regesterring

The bios has been reset, still does not recognize the HD in place and still has error at beginning of startup

Tried installing visTA and xp with no dice....been able to boot a Ubuntu 12.4 and 12.10 flash drives, even through my HD (through usb adapter) but cannot get it to do anything with the HD i suppose.

so....there is really no way to ACTUALLY reset this thing like if i FORREAlly just got it OUT OF THE BOX?
