My computer was working perfectly fine for two years, today i decided to clean fan out by taking whole laptop apart and got out layer of stashed dust like in a dryer after drying clothes and also added some thermo creme on cpu (i didnt take out cpu)

than i assemble everything back that way it should be and i installed battery and laptop started by it self and cap lock started flashed and nothing on the screen

FYI - i diassembled about 2 laptops a week for repairs, have a side business. never experienced this before.

Hello vlad33,

I see that after cleaning up the notebook you're having an issue with flashing LED by the caps lock. I will try to help you with this.

Use this document to see if you can identify an error code.
Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps.

That may then direct you into what you can try to correct the issue. Also, you may want to open the notebook back up just to verify everything was connected correctly.

Let me know if this helps.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

@Futoji Thanks for your response. Light constantly blinks and its every second exact. I desassembled it Three Times to make sure everything is connected. what could it be. I have taken over 100 laptops apart and nothing was like this one.

Hi,

The only response you're getting from the notebook is the flashing light? Anything else at all? Any noise, beeps, the fan? Can you hear the HDD start up?
If it sounds like it's starting up, does an external monitor display anything?

Have you tried battery in and out (AC only), to see if anything else happens?

Right now, there isn't much to go on. Other then something is wrong. With you tripple checking connections. I'd believe it's not that, but it may be a hardware component has failed. I would be looking into this avenue next. Specifically, if you can't get the notebook to "boot".

I hope this helps with ideas of what to try next. Let me know where it leads to.
Thanks.

Hi,

Have you tested with the external monitor to see if there is a display? (avoid using HDMI connections for this, as they'll require the graphics drivers and we don't know if they are functional)

It sounds from that last post, the notebook is starting up to some extent correclty. If we can get something on a screen this may provide more insight. If you have tried this and it didn't work let me know.

Also, test the memory if you haven't (provided removeable).

Hi,

Based on your latest post, I'm thinking that it's the graphics chips/card in the notebook that's not working correctly. "USB Charges, Everything lits up and when cd is in cd tray i here it and light blinks", practically sounds like the notebook is turning on.

" i tried VGA output and no it didn't work just black screen" that with the main display doing the same, would indicate to me we have no video output at all.

The chart below was from the document provided in my first post to identify blinking lights codes. You've mentioned in each that there are blinking LED's. It may not be the easiest to pick up the blink patterns, the pauses aren't long between the pattern repeating, but are noticeable. Try to compare again.

Caps Lock/Num Lock LED    Component Tested             Error Condition
LEDs blink 1 time                       CPU                               CPU not functional
LEDs blink 2 times                      BIOS                             BIOS corruption failure
LEDs blink 3 times                      Memory                         Module error not functional
LEDs blink 4 times                      Graphics                       Graphics controller not functional
LEDs blink 5 times                      System board                General system board failure
LEDs blink 6 times                       BIOS                             BIOS authentication failure

Looking into the Maintenance and Service guide for the notebook, if this is graphics you'd be looking at needing to replace the system board.

At this point your best bet would be contacting support for replacement options

I hope this information has helped.
