Probook 640 G1
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I bought a used HP laptop.. I installed Windows 8.1 Home edition, and the Fingerprint scanner is not working. I tried to install synaptic's driver, and the validity driver, but not working. . I got attention that maybe tis probook hasn't a Fingeprint reader? I could not find in the BIOS, and nowhere.. (neiher in device manager). Maybe I don't have a fingperprint reader?! I attached an image, I have this, but it looks like it isn't the reader.. What do you think?

Sad news, Jack.

The small, covered rectangle indicates where a fingerprint reader would be located if the reader was installed in the hardware.

Thanks for your answer! Can I buy a fingerprint reader for my laptop then? Or do you know why is that rectangle there then?

Apparently some models in this category do come with the optional fingerprint reader.  It is common practice to use the "same box" within a model type -- fingerprint readers are frequently an "optional" item when ordering a new (Custom to Order) computer.

I am not familiar enough with the business computer hardware to say whether you could have the reader added -- I think the addition of the actual hardware would be simple enough -- assuming the hooks are in place to connect the reader to power, etc.

The prerequisite BIOS and software infrastructure may need something that is not already in the OS.

Fingerprint readers are quite useful, in my opinion.  If you have the resources (time and money) -- and if you can find a local qualified computer tech to take a look at this; I think it would be worth checking.  You need to find someone that knows both the Operating System and the hardware.

The actual fingerprint reader Driver and the security program (Client Security) are available at the computer's Website support page.  It is a matter of the BIOS recognizing the hardware and the "rest" of the Operating System having the necessary libraries, links, and dependent software.
