My laptop won't turn on, yet the white light by the charger slot is lit- so I'm guessing the charger is working?

Hey Izzyshields,

I'm sorry you're running into this no boot issue. Yes, you are correct. The white light on beside where the charger plugs into the computer does mean that the charger is good and it is getting the correct amount of electricity from the wall.

Do you hear any sounds when you press the Power button, such as the fan/DVD drive spinning? Do you see any lights on/around the keyboard flash? Do you see any image at all on the screen? Maybe a startup screen or anything?

Look closely at the Caps/Num Lock lights and see if they blink in any kind of pattern? If so, let me know what the pattern is.

One thing you can try is a Hard Reset. This will drain all of the residual electricity out of the unit and give it a clean boot state. It often solves strange, unexplainable issues. Here are the steps for a Hard Reset.

You can also try reseating the RAM sticks. If you have more than one stick of RAM, try each one individually in each slot to rule out a bad stick or slot.

Let me know the results when you get a chance Smiley Happy

I'm having the same issue. Charger light is on but the computer won't come on. I do not hear any fans or see any other lights. Hard reset failed. Any suggestions?

I've tried the hard reset. Now only the lights on the laptop come on. The caps lock key and a light above the pg up key flashes once every three seconds. The power light, battery light comes but the third light next to it is flashing red. I have a hp hdx 18 premium series running on windows xp

Hey Paw1194,

Happy to help.  I was searching the issue and was just wondering if you had any USB devices connected at start up.  If you remove them and try again.

The Document includes flashing buttons on the computer. If gives links to specific solutions for the number of flashes or blinks.

Hey Paw1194,

What happens if you try to turn on the notebook without the battery in it?

You can use a Bootable Diagnostic Disc.

This might help.

Thanks
