I just opened and closed the hinge a few times and restarted and not given any problems since.

I am also having a keyboard hinge issue - would love to replace just the keyboard or get a dock. Keyboard has separated at the left edge - bottom cover back corner is coming loose, tried replacing the screw and it did nothing. But it appears more than just the bottom cover - hinge seems to be disconnecting from base plate of the keyboard. IMHO it appears the hinge is not adequately designed to handle the torque of the open/close and detach/attach operations.

Has anyone seen a way to order the right keyboard as a repair part? And does it cost as much as buying a whole new laptop ---so my X2 is going to be worthless once the hinge finally give up the last bit of adhesion it has?

One additional question - I just looked at the X2. Power plug attaches to the keyboard, yet the unit does operate as a tablet without the keyboard.  So there must be a battery in the tablet as well as one in the keyboard. Is there a way to charge the tablet battery without using the keyboard --once that hinge fails?

For example, plugging a USB cable into the tablet alone and the other end of that USB into a wall wart adapter ---would this pump enough juice into the unit to (a) at least permit it's use while plugged in? and (b) permit the tablet battery to be charged without ever having a keyboard attached?

Take a closer look! You have a power plug in the slate (i.e. the tablet part) as well as in the dock. So, you can simply use your usual power cable to charge the slate directly, insted of indirectly via the dock. No need to experiment with USB charger.

P.S.: The power plug for the slate is next to the headphone plug on the side of the slate where you connect it to the dock.

Good luck 😉
