For crystalg:
If it is the simple problem:
There is a button at the top of the pad or in other more recent models there is a "dot" at the upper left corner of the pad.
If yours has the button, PRESS THE BUTTON. A little dot in it turns ORANGE. That means the pad is OFF.
If it has the dot in the upper left corner of the pad, tap the dot twice...tap-tap. The dot turns ORANGE...the pad is off.
If you have a more complicated problem, i.e. you used to be able to do it befor but you cannot now...
Plz see my answer a few replies above (gcbakop) and try to follow it.
Basically re-install the driver - maybe it is corrupted.
It worked fine for me.
If it works/or if it does not for you, please stop by and let us now...it's good to get some feedback and plz refer to my answer by my name...many people do not (like answer #3 worked for me - which one is #3??) and create an even more confusing subject!

My tablet also did not turn on! I tried all the ways suggested in the forum and it would still not work.
Then my partner realized that even though the charger was plugged in, it wasn't actually charging because the connection was not right unless you pushed up on the part of the charger that connects directly into the tablet, (you can place a pen under it to keep it in place). Next step was to press the top right silver button simultaneously with the center bottom button (below screen) for a few seconds until you see the white light on that button flashing. This suggested it was charging, so we waited a night and next morning, we were able to turn on the tablet with the silver button on the top right. I hope this helps others who are just about ready to throw out their tablet like was!

Boy, am I embarrassed!
You guys were talking about the HP TouchPad Tablet, while (due to ignorance of products) I kept talking about the touchpad on an HP laptop...you know the little square thingie that replaces the mouse 🙂 🙂
I have a Samsung Galaxy 5 tablet and I am very happy with it for the past 14 mos...so I had no idea what HP was doing in the TABLET world 🙂 But since I have 4 HP's in my house, I jumped in!
If I managed to confuse someone...my apologies!

I always use an external mouse. When I type the touchpad cursor interferes and I'm typing all over the the
screen if I just inadvertently touch anywhere other than the actual keyboard. I want to permanently disable
the touchpad! Ron355

If we are taliking about the touch-pad on a laptop (the square thingie that replaces the mouse):
Double tap its upper left corner. If the orange light is on, the touchpad is disconnected. If you want it on, just double tap the upper left corner and the orange light goes off...that means the touch pad is working AND the mouse is working also.
I never experienced a problem/conflict when both of them are on the working mode.
I usually keep the touchpad "OFF" so there is no possible conflicts.
If we are talking about an HP TABLET....since I do NOT have one...I have NO idea!
