We put an adapter on the harddrive, it's hard to see just looks like it is all one part, you should be able to just pull the plastic part off the pins and that will let you plug yours into your new case, I went through the same thing about 3 years ago, it really looks like it's all just one piece..It should come off pretty easily, just pull...please let me know if that works for you
Here is a picture I hope it helps, if it does please click on accepted solution, or the Kudos, but only if I helped.

Hello, would you please answer a couple of questions so we can see if we can help you?
If you start with the Notebook off, and turn it on and tap the "f10 key" can you get into the BIOS?
If you can, how does it look there?
Also if you can see in the BIOS please provide your product number and BIOS version.
Next, if you plug in an external VGA monitor can you see the display on there correctly?
Thank you.

Hello - thanks for helping. I am in the UK so your assistance is very appreciated.
I have just turned on the laptop and all the blue lights come on but the screen is black and now Windows does not load up. The screen that allows the function keys to be used also does not now appear. I fear the siuation has become a lot worse. I was able, around 24 hours ago, to view Windows loading but, as I say, that is not tyhe case now.
I shall try an external monitor but I fear that may not be successful.
I have just noticed that there is no hard disk movement - no flickering of the blue light towards bottom left of teh screen.
The product is an HP Pavilion TX2000 Entertainment PC with AMD Turion 64 and NVIdia graphics with Vista Home Premium. Serial no {Removed for privacy} and p/n KM125EA#ABU
Thanks

Thanks for answering, I admit it does not sound good, if you can't even get into the BIOS then we can't run the diagnostic.
If the display is bad but the hard-drive still good, you could use it with a monitor, or pay for a repair.
But I would say if you are looking at paying for a repair you should instead put the money towards a newer unit.
It's your choice,
Before you try the monitor please try one thing for me, turn off the unit and remove the battery and AC power.
Then hold the power slide over in the on position for about 30 seconds.
after you have let go you can put the battery and the AC back on, make sure you have a light on where you plug in the AC so you know you have power and then try the external monitor
Please let me know how it goes.
Thanks

I just noticed you posted your Serial number, that is for one on one support, so I've asked them to remove it for your privacy...just a note for any future posts, model and product numbers are great., but save the Serial number for a more direct one -on one support channel, keeps you safer that way
good luck

Hi - first of all, apologies for the S/N and thanks for your action.
I have done what you suggested - extract the AC power, disengage the battery and then slide the start button to the right and hold for 30 seconds. I then reinserted the battery, connected the AC power and attached the notebook to an external display.
The notebook cam to life, as before, with the blue lights showing (except the hard disk light) and there was no attempt by the notebook to load up Windows (nor indeed the offer of the Bios F10 option). The screen was black all the way through.
I now fear the worst and it looks like a hard disk failure. Fortunately, I back up all the work files and pictures to a NAS but not i-tunes nor Outlook or I/E Favorites. I guess we are someway covered - i-tunes - we have the purchased content and the original CD's and there were not many Favorites. Outlook is a pain but not the end of the world - last couple of weeks were on webmail.
As the TX2000 has been playing up for some time (cursor moving on its own and often to the bottom left of the screen), as this problem occurred we bought an HP g6-1255sa so we will transition to that. It is just that I had hoped to resurrect the TX2000 as a backup notebook but now it may be confined to history...
Let me know your thoughts but thanks for your guidance and patience.

I have to agree, thanks for trying my tips, no hard-drive , no chance of getting to even watch it on an external monitor.
I believe you do have a hardware issue and we can't even run the diagnostics from the BIOS.
I'm glad to hear you have a replacement newer computer, we appreciate you staying with HP.
I'm also glad you have most files saved, that makes you the exception, most people know they should, but don't.
There is one other thing you can do if you want to look to see if you can see the data on the older hard-drive, if you have a case for an external Harddrive, one that fits the smaller drives you can put it into one of those and connect it to your new PC.
Good luck

Thanks for your comments and I can only concur. I have one last question which emanates from your suggestion of a case for the hard drive. In fact I thought of this a few days ago and ordered a case from Amazon. It arrived today and, earlier, I took the hard drive out of teh notebook and tried to connect the business end of the new case.
It did not appear to fit. I was careful to purchase a SATA case as I checked and it appeared to be a SATA hard drive in the TX 2000 (in fact it is a Western Digital Scorpio WD2500B EVS 250Gb. Are there different connectors for hard drives or should the one I bought work with all SATA drives?
Thanks for your time - it is very appreciated.
