The power light flashes about 8 times then nothing, tried taking the battery out and holding the power button for 20 secs and it still does the same thing. No other lights flash that I can see, I just bought a new power adapter thinking that the old one was bad. I am running Windows 7, I don't know what else to do, any help would be GREAT. Thanks!

Have you tried it with battery removed and only power cord connected?

Other than trying what I suggested, you will need to have it diagnosed by a professional.

Hi:

My suggestion since most of the 8440p's come with a 3 year warranty (and that notebook is not 3 years old), would be to check the warranty status below, and contact HP technical support if your notebook is still under warranty.

Yes I have tried with the powercord only and it flashes amber 8 times. With the battery installed it flashes blue and amber constantly. This was my mom's computer, she passed away in May and I don't know anything about it other than it worked for 3 days and died too.

Thanks for your help, but this model only came with a 1 year warranty. I think that is odd for some to have one and others to have 3. The funny thing is the warranty expired the day my mom died and it was her computer. Sorry I have a sick sense of humor, and I find it funny. I don't know if it is worth having it looked at, I don't know anything about HP computers I only have Gateway, is it worth it?

My condolences, sorry to hear about your Mom, GOD Bless.

You might send an email to this company, include the make and model of the notebook, including the symptoms, see it they can repair it at a reasonable cost.

Hi:

I offer my condolences too on the loss of your mother.

Depending on the cost to repair the notebook, yes, that is an expensive notebook (cost at least $900 new), so it may be worth fixing.

Thank you both so very much for your help! I was hoping it was something I could fix, but thank you for your time, advice and kind words.

Had the same problem fixed it by opening the keyboard and removing the battery of the motherboard for one minute.
