I have an HP Pavilion dv7 running windows 7 64-bit.

This has been a problem since I purchased the laptop.

When I say it takes forever to pick up the wifi signal, I literally mean 3 minutes (give or take).  That amount of time seems excessive for the amount of money this computer cost.  It doesn't take anybody else's laptop/iPad/etc. long at all to connect to the wifi.

Sometimes it will pick up the signal automatically, sometimes I have to find the signal and click "connect."

This is enormously frustrating, I go back and forth between school, home #1 and home #2.  Each time i pull out the laptop, I have to stare at it for a few minutes while it furiously attempts a connection.  What gives?

Please don't tell me this is just the way it is.  For $2,000+ I should think HP could manage a device that connects to the internet quickly and easily.

I would suggest uninstalling the Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN adapter and then restart.

I would suggest going into the device manager and uninstal the wireless adapter (right click on computer from the start menu-click on manage-click on device manager-click on network adapters-right click on wireless adapter-uninstall).  Then reboot and it should reinstall.  If this doesn't work then go to hp.com or the hp support assistant program and make sure you have the latest driver installed.

Thanks for your help... may I ask for a little more?  Under Network Adapters there are listed:

Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN

Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #2

Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

Do I uninstall all of them, some of them, or a specific one?

HP Recommended

I uninstalled the two Microsoft Virtual WiFi Minioirt Adapters and restarted the computer.  Before I uninstalled them I tried to update them by right clicking and selecing "update software" or whatever.  Is said it was failing to install new software.

Anyway, I uninstalled and rebooted the computer and both adapters were reinstalled and furthermore, when I right click to update software it is now telling me they are up-to-date.

The computer finds the internet fairly quickly when I'm restarting it, booting it up.

But if I close the notebook, and open it up, it fails to re-establish the connection.  When I manally click "connect" it takes a feq minutes (too long) and displays the message, "Connecting to the network is taking longer than usual"  it eventually connects and then works fine.

More information:  I have the Intel My WiFi Technology disabled.  Is this causing the problem?

More info on the Intel My WiFi Technology... when I try to enable it, it gives me an error message:

"Intel My Wifi Technology has been configured with a non-supported profile.  Instead, the default profile wil be used."

And when I go back to the task menu, Intel My WiFi is still disabled.

I am having the same issue as the original thread.

I have tried the Solution and it does not work for me.

Are there other options available?

HP Recommended

I have the same issue but different network adapters on my HP.  Normally, I'd just uninstall them all but I have a habit of jumping in to a problem too fast and really mess things up more than I should.  That being said, I have three adapters listed and am unsure which ones to remove.

Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter

Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller

Thanks
