Hello, I have a HP Mini 110-4250nr PC, bought in summer of 2012.  It is running really slow and is frustrating.   It takes up to 30 seconds to do something simple, like open Internet Explorer or any type of folder.  Documents may take up to a minute.

I still have the Windows 7 starter that it came with.  I want to use it primarily for writing.  I have Microsoft Office on it and while running Word 2013 there is a lag, the screen doesn't keep up with my typing speed.

If I upgrade to windows 8 will performances improve?  I don't want to drop the money on the upgrade to get the same result.

Will a hardware upgrade be required?

Hi,

The following link shows specs of your machine:

   http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03377528

It has only 1GB of RAM, upgrading to 2Gb of RAM you can see a lot of improvement. Machine only has ONE slot of RAM, you have to throw away the 1Gb stick and buy one 2Gb stick. This is the cheapest way.

There is other thing would make machine run faster: replace the 5400rpm HDD with a SSD but please consider cost/performance. You can buy RAM from the following vendor or use the information to buy elsewhere:

Hi,

No, upgrade to Windows 8 won't help. What is the model of your machine ? There are many mini 110 models around. For under $250 (plus around $50 for a 64Gb microSD card) you can buy a Surface now if you ONLY need browsing the Internet and do some Office works.

Model number, not sure.  The HP detector gave me this:  HP Mini 110-4250nr.

I have a tablet already, thanks though.
