I just ordered the Intel 7260HMW Dual Band WiFi card to replace the crappy installed Realtek RTL8188EE. ( I still don't understand why the Realtek card doesn't deliver 130mps.) There are two options to install this card and it's drivers. One is to install it with the Intel ProSet software which controls all the computers wireless functions and the other is with the drivers alone. Has anyone installed this card and if so which option did you choose? Why?

Thanks in advance.

Scott

Interesting thread in the link you provided. It is always nice when another member confirms that a WiFi adapter works in a specific notebook.

The Intel ProSet Software and driver will not have a negative effect on anything. It will improve your  WiFi experience with the adapter.

What is the product name or product number of your notebook?

Was the wireless card one  that listed as an option in the Maintenence & Service guide for your notebook?

If the card works in your laptop I would highly recommend that you use the Intel version of the software annd drivers.

You will notice that the wireless sensitivity improves vastly with the Intel ProSet software.

1. HP Envy 17 Laptop

2. The b/g/n version is listed, not the AC.

Thanks for your suggestion. Will the Intel software conflict with or alter the functionality of any of the preinstalled software or functions?

Which Envy 17?

There are many.

The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook - see This HP web document if you don't how to locate the model number and\or product number.

How about answering my questions from my previous post.

I am not suggesting that you purchase or install anything until you check to make sure you are not spending money on a wifi adapter that isn't compatible with your notebook.

The 7260 b/g/n is listed in the manual, not the 7260 AC.

It seems we must be looking at different manuals. You still have not proviuded the complete product name or product number of your Envy 17 notebook.

The following wireless adapters are shown as optionally installed in the manual for the Envy 17 and Envy 17 Touchscreen manual I found while using the generic identification  you provided.  The 7260 b/g/n that you describe is not listed as supported by the Envy 17 notebook that the HP Maintenence & Service guide covers.  At this point I would say that purchasing that adapter particular adapter is a risk. My objective is to help yiou not make a mistake and purchase an adapter that simply is not compatible with your notebook. If your choice is to hide your notebooks specifications by not providing me with the complete product name or product number, then that is your own choice.

My last HP loaner notebook was an Envy 17 series notebook from 2013. Envy notebooks change, as do the optional adapters and features.

Page 42, Chapter 5 of the HP Envy Repair Manual indicates:

Intel Wireless-N 7260BN 802.11 b/g/n 2x2 wifi + BT 4.0 combo adapter

There are also numerous posts online of this card woking in HP Envy laptops. My question is about the software. Will The Proset software mess up anything such as the wifi toggle on the keyboard.
