Your buddy is correct for Windows 8 and 8.1 but Windows 10 is a different system. Did you ever have Windows 10 installed and activated? if so you can put it back on and as long as it is the same edition and it will automatically activate. The Microsoft Activation servers have a profile of every computer on which Windows 10 was ever activated. Kind of creepy if you ask me but it works well in practice.

If you never had Windows 10, then we need to figure out if your laptop came with 8 or 8.1 and we have to get you an OEM install disk of the exact same version. Microsoft used to have them for download but stopped that some time ago.

From official specs it looks like yours came with Windows 8.1 (Home) 64 bit.
