HP Compaq Presario CQ40-340TU

Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

Error message: Cannot connect to this video device (USB Video Device). Please select another capture device via Settings or close any application that may be using this video device and restart YouCam.

Changes prior issue: I updated my webcam's driver based on a recommendation made by a third-party software.

Others: I've already tried DIY fixes found in this website. Unfortunately, none of them worked. Device Manager still detects my webcam as USB Camera, and it says that the device is working properly. Device Manager says the same thing about my webcam's listed driver (USB Video Device).

Please help me fix this problem. Many thanks in advance! 🙂

Hello! 🙂

I've already tried the suggestions found in the link you posted. Unfortunately, none of them worked.

I used a program called DevManView to display Device Manager data still in the registry. It says that my webcam is no longer connected. What does that mean? Apparently, it was disconnected on the same day I updated its driver. (Please see the image below.)

Thanks! 🙂

Hi

Have you tried system restore option and check if that works Or you can even perform a recovery before this kindly back up your data as it will be lost. If both these option does not work that case you need to get the part replaced you need to call HP Technical support check the warranty get the details in regards to service.

Let us know how it goes!

I've tried system restore. It didn't resolve the problem. Saving recovery as a last resort. Isn't there anything else I can do?

Hi

Recovery is the last option as you have already tried most off the steps.

Okay, thanks! 🙂

I have a question though. Is it possible for a driver update to damage hardware?

HP Recommended

Hi

Driver update cannot cause a Hardware damage but can cause a driver conflict.

Last question, could it have damaged my webcam's firmware and/or the original driver (usbvideo.sys)?

HP Recommended

Hi

This could have damaged the original driver on the unit.
