Hello,
I am looking to purchase the newly launched HP Envy j106tx. It comes with the wireless module Intel 3165 AC but I would prefer one with dual radio like Intel 7265 instead. The chipset for the laptop is Intel HM170. I wish to know if there would be compatibility issues with such an upgrade.
For some reason, HP does not allow customization at the time of ordering in India, but , post purchase, will they be able to upgrade it for me , at a cost, at one of their service centers ?
Thanks

According to the HP ENVY Notebook (model numbers used: 14-j000 through 14-j099) - Maintenance and Service Guide, the following WiFi cards are factory options in this series of computers;
WLAN module:
Broadcom BCM943142 802.11 bgn 1×1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 M.2 Combo Adapter - HP part #792608-005
Intel 3165NGWG ac 1×1 + Bluetooth 4.0 LE PCIe+USB NGFF 2230 Combo Adapter - HP part #806723-005
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 802.11 ac 2×2 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter - HP part #793840-005
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 802.11 ac 1×1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter - HP part #784644-005
It is possible that one could remove the back of the computer and change out the WLAN card.

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and product number (p/n) of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
It appears the "ENVY j106tx" naming convention is use in a Notebook 14-j106tx, a TouchSmart 15-j106tx, and a 17-j106tx Leap Motion. Please clarify which model you are referring to.

I noticed that the model range doesnt cover Envy 14-j106tx ( only goes to 14-j099 ). Sorry, I overlooked that earlier. I tries to find a similar document applicable to my model but couldnt. Not sure what to do now.

That MSG is the one given on the HP Support page for your exact model. Sometimes HP increments the model number scheme but the hardware doesn't change.

You are right, the MSG you linked to is the one listed for the Envy 14-j106tx...thing is, the product description on that document shows 5th gen processors whereas the Envy 14-j106tx has a 6th gen processor and a different corresponding chipset...strange
Anyway, thanks again for your help...you did more than the tech support guys at HP could
